10th Anniversary Talk by Tom Cunliffe – 'Lead us not into digital temptation'

TC
Tom Cunliffe

Tom’s talk has the title ‘Lead us not into digital temptation’ or from Grandfather's pocket watch to the electronic chart plotter. It is an irreverent but informative look at the changes many of us have seen in navigation. It starts in the 1970s, with me sailing from Rio de Janeiro to Barbados - after a misunderstanding with the law - in an ancient boat with neither engine nor charts, backed up with a gun, a sextant and my old Granddad’s watch. From there to a modern yacht full of electronic plotters is a voyage you won’t want to miss.
Tom Cunliffe is a highly respected Sailor, Trainer and author of 25 books including the ‘Best Book of the Sea’ award winners. He has served before the mast in small sailing ships, skippered yachts for private owners, raced offshore, been to sea as mate on a coastal merchant vessel and taught sailing, seamanship and navigation.
Admission to Tom’s talk will be by a non-refundable £5.00 ticket only. These will be available later.
