The Christmas Dinner 2002As the most western members (or so we believe), living on Exmoor, we had a 4 hour journey to get to Turners Hill. Isn't it strange how a 4 hour trip on a boat is over so quickly, yet 4 hours on the A303 and M25 ..! As usual the welcome we received from the members more than made up for the journey. The Crown was festive and full of sailors telling taller and taller stories. We are both founder members of ASC, having joined when even John Alden was younger, and what struck us, not having been able to attend the club for over a year, was how few people we knew! The club has obviously grown a lot since the early days when we all easily fitted into the Star at Felbridge (come to that we all fitted onto a few boats!) but the sense of fun and camaraderie is as strong as ever. From what we heard ASC are putting lots more sailors on the water on a reasonably regular basis. Many thanks to Doh for organising (again!) an excellent Christmas event, even down to providing place cards with our names and what we had ordered, for those of us who couldn't remember. We're booking our places for 2003 now! Ken & Barbara Warren. PS A quick quiz question: Who was the first person to step ashore at Plymouth Rock from the Mayflower? |
