Commodore's ReportSailing In this issue you will find the provisional sailing program for next year. It has been put together trying to take into account the discussion and ideas put forward at the Club meeting of 5th November. It was good to see such a good attendance and to receive so many thoughts and suggestions for this program. One thing of note to come out of the meeting was that Janny Taylor will co-ordinate sailing for those that find themselves wishing to sail on weekends/days/midweek when there is no published Club event. If you wish to go out on a non-club occasion then give Janny a call and she will keep a list and aim to put crew and skippers in touch. You will notice that a theme and/or destination is suggested for a number of events. If the theme is one that you "couldn't cope with" then please still send in an application form, with appropriate comments, as you will not be the only one and we will find some boats not wanting to go "boat handling" or "night sailing" for example. Proposed outline for some of the events Boat handling - the opportunity for those that normally "crew" to have a go at coming alongside/picking up a buoy etc. Maintenance - Two weekends where you get the chance to find out how to scrub and anti-foul or service an engine for example. It is also a good opportunity to help the PBOs (poor bloody owners) reduce the long list of "things to do". A good social atmosphere is normally to be found and your help is very much appreciated for one or both days. All the events need organisers. You do not have to be a boat owner or an experienced skipper to do this as help will be given if needed. If you have any ideas for themes or would like to organise an event please contact Pam Wyatt. Social By the time you receive this it will probably be too late for the Pooh Bear walk - 23rd November. We will report on the good time had in the next issue. Our Christmas dinner is happening on Friday 12th December and there are still a few places available. If you haven't yet booked a place or three then you better give Doh a ring urgently. (number in front cover and menu further on in this Log). We are trying to spice up the regular Wednesday monthly meetings, (not that much ! ), and to this end have a few things organised ie. A flares demo, a presentation by the RNLI etc. We have also appointed a Social secretary, Kath Rayner, who would be glad to receive any further suggestions. AGM More on the outcome of the AGM in the next issue but please note that the minutes are posted on the notice board at Dunnings. That's all for now John Alden. |
