Submerged Barrier update

Did you know this?

"SUBMERGED BARRIER" S W OF NO MAN'S LAND FORT REMOVED. LNTM 09/04

1. Mariners are advised that the submerged barrier, (shown on chart 2037) which runs southwest from No Man's Land Fort in the Eastern Solent, has now been totally removed and is fit for navigation by suitable small craft.

2. The UK Hydrographic Office at Taunton will issue an appropriate chart correction in due course. The Admiralty Chart will then show "Foul Ground, least depth 2 metres". The area will be enclosed by a dotted line on the chart.

3. Vessels which require no greater than 2 metres depth of water, at any time, are encouraged to make this new channel their preferred route thus increasing separation between themselves and the large commercial traffic making passage between the forts.

4. Further more, it is intended to relocate the port hand day mark from its current charted position (50° 44'.100 North 001° 06'.470 West) to a new position (50° 44'.160 North 001° 05'.970 West) thus defining the new channel with more clarity. Additionally when re-sited the day mark will be fitted with a flashing red light. At this stage a further LNTM will be issued.

5. However mariners are warned that the submerged barrier running north from Horse Sand Fort has not been removed and remains as shown on the relevant Admiralty Charts with the "Main Passage" remaining the only access across it.

6. Cancel on this LNTM on 31 December 2004, when sufficiently promulgated / replaced by updated chart information.
