A Few Notes from Summer Song (Bank Holiday Cruise)
by Pam Wyatt

Summer Song together with Fizzgig and Lucrece left the marina around 0700, but only got part way down the harbour before poor visibility forced us to pick up a buoy in the Itchenor Reach. Lucrece joined us and Fizzgig continued a little further to practice navigating in fog. About 2 hours later the vis improved so we decided to make for Brighton. We motor sailed in light winds and varying visibility, sometimes as low as 50m until about 1400 when suddenly it all cleared and the sun came out. We arrived at Brighton around 1830 having only managed to sail (slowly) for 3 hours.
On Sunday we left around 0930 for Littlehampton, a new venue for all of us and although the wind was light we managed to sail most of the way only giving up in order to reach the harbour before high water. Littlehampton dries at the entrance and so can only be entered 2 or 3 hours either side of high water. We arrived around 1630 to find Blue Scherzo and Sea Holly, who had come from Sparks at Chichester, already moored up on the Town Quay and a very friendly Harbour Master waiting to take our lines. After a stroll around Littlehampton and some drinks on Summer Song, we all adjourned to the Arun Yacht Club opposite the town quay for a cruise dinner and a few more drinks. The Yacht Club was excellent - the food and drinks very reasonably priced.
On Monday it was another early start - 0600. It was a clear day with a few drops of rain and we sailed all the way back to the West Pole at Chichester. We were too early to get into the marina so picked up a buoy near Birdham, had lunch and eventually arrived at our berth at 1630.
