Commodore’s Comments

The Annual General Meeting of YOUR club is taking place soon - well fairly soon - but this is the issue with which to remind you! Working backwards, the AGM will be held on Wednesday 1st November. A formal notice will be with you on Wednesday 18th October. With this newsletter you will find a form to nominate committee members and propose any motion that you wish to go before the AGM and another that outlines the procedure to follow. Don't forget that nominations must be with Sandi by 11th October.

So far you may have noticed that the venue for the AGM has not been mentioned. This is because we are on the move. Until recently the Club was meeting at Spooners, which has now, unfortunately, closed. We have held the last two regular monthly meetings at the Dorset Arms, which is in the High Street, East Grinstead. We are looking at alternative venues but in the meantime the first Wednesday in October and the AGM, which is the first Wednesday in November, will be held at the Dorset Arms. Please make sure that you read the “Notice of AGM” in case the venue changes.

To evaluate various alternative venues, we are putting aside the third Wednesday of the next few months (20th September and 18th October etc.) to go and look at some of these. Instead of just a few of the Committee, I would like as many people as possible to come and generate some atmosphere (and have a beer! - or is it to have a beer in order to create the right atmosphere!!). If you would like to come along then put the dates in your diary and we will notify venues by e-mail or by phone.

By the time you read this the main part of the sailing season will be over. Don't worry, we have a number of opportunities, both social and sailing, to help you get through the winter doldrums. Between now and Christmas there is a walk - don't be concerned, it is not a route march - and our Christmas dinner, in a different venue this year - see the programme at the back of the Newsletter. On the sailing side we have weekends towards the end of this month and October and November.

Enjoy the autumn and I look forward to seeing you somewhere soon.
